Wind2 Energy is proposing to build a 'wind farm' on the treasured local hilltops of Garreg Hir. The plans include:-

11 turbines, up to 200m (656 feet) high with 85m (278 foot) blades and a BESS storage battery compound of 50m x 50m (164  x 164foot) 

To put this in perspective, the height of Garreg Hir is  485m (1590 feet). Most of the proposed turbines would be set at around 430 m (1410 feet). This means their actual height would be around 630m (2065feet) and would tower 145 (475 feet) over the ridge.

• Massive destruction of remote landscape, viewpoints, tranquillity and hazard to two SSSI areas, Llyn Mawr and Llyn Du. 8 km of access roads over challenging sloping bedrock ridges.
• Industrial-sized Turbines at 200m (656 feet), twice as high as nearby Tir Gwynt Windfarm (115m), would tower above them on the ridge and be visible from long distances all around. Each turbine base would require an estimated 80 loads of concrete, plus blade deliveries, stone material —about 1000 large vehicle journeys.
• New 5-6m wide access road over 4 km, a mammoth task up the winding valley and major disruption to wildlife.

• Cumulative impact —would add significantly to other giant turbine complexes in that area, destroying the scenic views to Snowdonia, Berwyns, Arans, Breidden, Brecon Beacons, Pumlumon, Stiperstones...
• Disruption to Llyn Mawr, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in recognition of the special lake and bog habitats, surrounded by wetlands, supporting a range of bog, marsh and wet woodland communities: Tufted Duck, Quillwort, Cormorants, Curlews.
• Unique geology and topography of the land with steeply sloping harder bands of Silurian and Ordovician Rock, which give this area great character and form peat bogs, 2 lakes, wildlife habitats.
• Disturbance of Peatlands from turbine and site access road construction — vital carbon and water retaining ecosystems. According to Future Wales Policy, peat and their surrounds must be protected and safeguarded from development.

• Prehistoric Bronze age Scheduled Monuments—at least 5 cairns, stone row, hut circle settlement located in the area, mostly undisturbed, with significant archaeological potential.
• Public Footpaths cross the site, a much loved hiking area.
